Once upon a time there was this innocent middle/high school girl who was transported to another world where she finds she has special
abilities. In this strange and mysterious land she meets a handsome but obnoxious young man who serves as her guardian as said girl sets out to save the worlds.
sound familiar? Now lets reconstruct the premise a little bit.
Once upon a time there was this average male high school freshman boy who was transported to another world via toilet where he finds he is destined
to be king - of the demons. In this strange and mysterious land he meets several handsome men and manages (through a misunderstanding of cutlery etiquette) to become
engaged to one of them. This is the premise of Kyo Kara Maoh
Brought over to the United States as anime in 2005 by Geneon (and pickup by Funimation in August), Kyo Kara Maoh's trade mark humor combined with
its rich plot line have made it a consistent fan favorite. On October 14, the series is making its first transition to print; Tokyopop will be publishing the first volume
of the manga in the United States.
Unlike many anime, the manga is not Kyo Kara Maoh's original form. This series started it life out as a series of novels. These novels were so popular that
they were eventually turned into anime and manga to meet fan demand. Other series that share this distinction: Full Metal Panic, Twelve Kingdoms, Kino's Journey, and Trinity Blood.
