Thursday, October 14: David Diaz at The Center for Children's Literature


The Center for Children's Literature is proud to announce two opportunities to hear from celebrated children's literature illustrator David Diaz, winner of the Caldecott award for Smoky Night. Mr. Diaz will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Southwest Kenosha Public Library, and at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, during Carthage's Family Fun Night in Hedberg Library.

Visiting from his home in Carlsbad, Calif., Mr. Diaz will share his experience of illustrating for more than 25 years. He has illustrated many award-winning books for children including Smoky Night by Eve Bunting, for which he was awarded the Caldecott Medal; The Wanderer by Sharon Creech, which received a Newbery Honor; and Diego: Bigger Than Life by Carmen T. Bernier-Grand, a Pura Belpré Honor Award winner. Mr. Diaz is also a graphic designer, painter and an accomplished ceramic artist.

Join the Center for Children's Literature during these two exciting events to hear about the creative process of this impressive artist and the magic of children's books. Books will be available for purchase and signing. There is no charge to attend.
