Looking for a Good Read-Aloud?

The following lists the 2013 awards for the best picture books for reading aloud, as awarded by Mankato State University of Minnesota.  If you haven't already discovered them for your programs or recommendations, these
have a stamp of approval, so check them out!

Wanda Gág Book Award for 2013 (best picture book to read aloud to younger children):
Silly Doggy! written by Adam Stower and published by Orchard Books, an imprint of Scholastic.

Gág Honor Books:
·         Oh, No! written by Candace Fleming, illustrated by Eric Rohmann, and published by Schwartz & Wade Books, an imprint of Random House Children's Books.
·         Z is for Moose written by Kelly Bingham, illustrated by Paul O. Zelinsky, and published by Greenwillow Books, an imprint of HarperCollins.


Comstock Book Award for 2013 (best picture book to read aloud to older children):

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore written by William Joyce, illustrated by William Joyce and Joe Bluhm, and published by Moonbot Books, an imprint of Atheneum Books for Young Readers.

Comstock Honor Books:
·         Jack and the Baked Beanstalk written and illustrated by Colin Stimpson and published by Templar Books, an imprint of Candlewick Press.
·         Mrs. Harkness and the Panda written by Alicia Potter, illustrated by Melissa Sweet, and published by Alfred A. Knopf, an imprint of Random House Children's Books.
·         Suryia Swims! The True Story of How an Orangutan Learned to Swim by Bhagavan "Doc" Antle with Thea Feldman, photographs by Barry Bland, and published by Henry Holt.
