 Hello YSS members!

This is Linda Jerome and Ashley Bieber, your YSS co-chairs who are both incredibly ready for SPRING! Now you might be asking yourself “Why do we have co-chairs?” and that is a great question—here’s the answer: in the fall of 2013, our chair-elect, Debbie Olguin, resigned from the YSS board. As the elections had already been completed, we were in a bit of conundrum (although this isn’t the first time this has happened in recent history): how do we maintain some sort of leadership continuity without throwing our recently-elected chair-elect into the proverbial trial by fire? Our solution, after much discussion amongst current and incoming board members as well as with executive director Plumer Lovelace, was that we would share the YSS chair duties for the first six months of 2014 and then Ashley would be chair in her own right and Linda would take up the past-chair duties. We would then elect a new chair-elect in the fall 2014 elections and Ashley and Linda would retain their respective duties through 2015. While this means that we both have “bonus” time in our respective positions, we felt it was the best way to navigate through this unexpected detour.

In other news, the YSS board will be at WAPL and we hope to see YOU there as well! There are several fantastic youth-related programs at the conference including a special carpool opportunity to the Bookworm Gardens on Thursday afternoon right before the YSS board meeting—come and spend the afternoon with your fellow YSS members!
