Take Action for Libraries

From the ALA Washington office:

For the first time in more than 60 years, a librarian -- Dr. Carla Hayden -- is poised to become the Librarian of Congress. The Senate Rules Committee just voted unanimously on June 9th to recommend to the full Senate that her nomination be approved, but that’s just the Committee Members’ non-binding advice to their colleagues. Now, a majority of Senators (51 or more) must vote “aye” when Dr. Hayden’s name comes before them.

That could be any day now, so both of your U.S. Senators -- and especially Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky who controls the Senate’s voting schedule -- need to hear from you now.  If you like, check out these talking points about Dr. Hayden and the Librarian’s position. Then use ALA’s Legislative Action Center to email, tweet or phone their offices with this simple message: “Please confirm Dr. Carla Hayden to be Librarian of Congress now.”

Don’t hide your pride; act today!

Dr. Hayden started her career as a youth librarian and has done stellar work throughout her career in all aspects. Let's help a librarian become Librarian of Congress! Please contact your senators today!
