Supporting Social Emotional Learning with Books

Today I have some resources to share for booklists that support social emotional learning (SEL) for young children and their families.

First, is a booklist developed by the Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning. Categorized by types of feelings, as well as subjects such as self-confidence and grief, the Children's Book List is a useful resource.

Our colleagues at the Denver Public Library in Colorado have developed booklists for Social, Emotional and Academic Learning. Their booklists were developed in the five competencies that support (SEL) and include K-2 and 3-5 booklists.

To learn more about the five competencies and SEL in general, you can visit the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning website which includes Research, Practice, Policy, and Networks.
