Fun Fridays - Homeschool Programs

Jamie Mercer is the Head of Youth Services at W.J. Niederkorn (Port Washington) Library and shares some extra fun with easy and/or FREE programming ideas/tips.

Happy Friday!’

So today I’m going to briefly talk about Homeschool programs.

Over the years, I have run a variety of homeschool programs with varying themes and from the feedback I receive, what families love, is the chance to meet up and connect with other families and groups that homeschool.

How I typically approach Homeschool programming now, is to offer a daytime program, once every month or every other month that align with events and celebrations happening during that month.  Activities we have recently hosted include a STEM gingerbread house building challenge, a Valentines for Veterans Card Making program, a presentation from an Iditarod Dog trainer and her huskies, a Homeschool art show, and more.

When marketing Homeschool programs, sometimes I get asked if these programs aren’t excluding others.  My answer is no.  Programs are open to all members of the public.  Our marketing always states that these programs (Kickin’ It Homeschool) are geared especially for the Homeschool Community but all members of the public are welcome.  There is a big difference in intentionality- that is- we are intentionally recognizing that there is a large group of homeschooling members in our community and we are providing a service or program that may fit their needs.  It may also fit the needs of many others in the community.  We are not intentionally excluding anyone.

I hope if nothing else this gives you some ideas on a Homeschool Program you may want to try!

Have a great weekend!
