Storytelling in Storytime

In a recent ALSC blog post, Wisconsin youth librarian Kristen Caldwell made a strong case for using storytelling in your storytimes. As a longtime storyteller myself, I can say that letting young children use their imagination while a story is being told orally is a powerful - and educational - interaction.

Kristin writes: "Storytelling has great benefits for all ages, especially young children. Children who are engaged in the story can be introduced to new vocabulary and will have more words to express themselves which is an early literacy skill. In addition, stories help children learn to listen and develop oral and written communication skills."
