STARNet webinar: Summer Fun for All Ages with GLOBE Citizen Science

• Tuesday, March 4 at 12:00 p.m. 
• Join STARnet and the NASA Earth Science Education Collaborative (NESEC) to round out planning for your 2025 summer library programs. Discover hands-on STEAM activities that can support either the Collaborative Summer Library Program (Color Our World) or iREAD (Level up at your Library with games and puzzles). These can be used in active and passive library programs to inspire and prepare patrons of all ages – from kids to seniors - to participate in NASA GLOBE Observer citizen science. This webinar will take place at 11:00 am Mountain Standard Time.

Children's Book Week

• As part of the longest-running national celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading, schools, libraries, and bookstores will celebrate Children’s Book Week on May 5-11 and on November 3-9 from coast to coast in all 50 states.
• Sign up to participate and receive two free posters. 

WebJunction

• WebJunction equips library staff with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to power strong libraries that are the heart of vibrant communities. WebJunction is FREEE and open to all libraries to use. 
• Check out the Course Catalog. You will need to create a free account to enroll in a course.

Ideas for Children's Book Week — Free Posters!

The 2022 spring Children's Book Week is coming up on May 2-8. This year's slogan is How Do You Book?, and the poster artwork is by Raúl The Third.

Pledge to participate in the celebration, and receive 2 of the posters for free!

This is a great excuse to celebrate books, authors, and reading! You may want to consider hosting an active or passive program:

• Your program can be as simple as a "book characters scavenger hunt" in your library. First, print and laminate images of book characters to hide around the library. Then, offer a sticker as a prize for completing the hunt.
• Decorate the library with Children's Book Week posters and with any book character stuffed animals your library owns.
• Hand out free bookmarks.
• Try these bookmarks from Demco.
• Or print the bookmarks available directly from the Children's Book Week website.
• Maybe you'd like to have a raffle—anyone who visits the library that week could enter a raffle for a free children's book.

However you decide to celebrate, I hope you have fun with it!

Voting is Open - Children's Choice Book Awards

In honor of Children's Book Week coming up in May, the Children's Book Council has now opened voting for kids in their annual Children's Choice Awards. This is a great link to share with the kids at your library!

Sneak Peek at the Children's Choice Book Award Winners

One of the delights of our May Children's Book Week is a gala affair in New York awarding the "Children's Choice" Award. Kids from all over the country voted on line for their favorite books and authors.  Thanks to Jen Robinson and her Book Page we get a sneak peek at the results.  Official results and a video of the awards can be found Tuesday at the Children's Book Council website.  Thanks Jen for your intrepid girl-reporter chops!

Happy Children's Book Week

 May 7-13th is Children's Book Week, sponsored by the Children's Book Council.  Although the new spring rather than fall time frame suits publishers and bookstores more, it still is an opportunity for all folks who love kids books to raise a glass and cries of "Huzzah!"

Whether we have programs or not during this traditionally quieter time in the public library, we who are surrounded by children's books know how lucky we are to be in this field. For those of us who work with youth, I would suggest that every week is book week for us!

Children's Book Week!

The new Children’s Book Week website is now live at www.bookweekonline.com!

The first thing you’ll discover when you get to the site is that voting is now open for the first ever Children’s Choice Book Awards. As has been discussed on this list, the Children’s Book Council and CBC Foundation launched the program to provide young readers with an opportunity to voice their opinions about the books being written for them and to help develop a reading list that will motivate children to read. The list of 25 finalists in five categories was announced yesterday. Kids can cast their vote for their favorite books, author, and illustrator at www.BookWeekOnline.com until May 4. There is also information about how you can collect paper ballots and submit one set of numbers for your classroom, school, or library via the voting site. Please check it out today to see the complete list of finalist.

The Children’s Choice Book Award winners will be announced live at the Children’s Choice Book Award gala on May 13 in New York City as part of Children’s Book Week (May 12-18, 2008), the oldest national literacy event in the United States. This initiative is a new component of Children’s Book Week, which for the first time is being held in May.
