Scary Stories Told in the Dark

A particularly appropriate post for those libraries exploring the darker side of the CLSP themes this summer!  Our guest post is from Amanda Struckmeyer, YSS member and Head of Youth Services at Middleton (WI) Public Library.
Recipe for a Spooky ‘Tween Program:
·         ‘Tweens (ages 8-12)
·         45 minutes after school or in the evening
·         A campfire (made from construction paper, tissue paper, and a few flashlights)
·         Battery-operated candles
·         Pre-selected stories (a mix of funny ones, scary ones, and quirky ones) from Alvin Schwartz’s collections, read aloud by flashlight—Especially stores that encourage audience participation, like howling or other noises
·         A display of scary books for participants to check out
·         Walking s’mores (small paper cups filled with a mix of chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, and Golden Grahams cereal)

Turn off the lights and get ready for some spooky fun!
