Responses to Charlottesville
I love this idea of inspiring community healing. I'm a strong believer in reading to build empathy and understanding.
A lot of libraries are stepping up with new displays. Here we have two in the works: "Libraries are for Everyone", which will be a mix of fiction and nonfiction, picture books through teen, and a second, specifically non-fiction display "History Need Not Repeat Itself" on everything from Slavery to Civil Rights to the Holocaust to the Trail of Tears.
ALA came out with a statement this week--find that here.
Megan Baird posted this on Storytime Underground with her six selections of relevant reading.
Is your library doing anything new in response or reaction to current events? Are you reading anything amazing that is helping you serve your community more effectively right now?
