I don't know about you, but I definitely don't regularly think about the cleaning products used in my library. Other than being thankful that the library spaces are cleaned often and well, I haven't put much thought into what products our lovely custodians use to make our children's and teen areas sparkle and shine.
However, I recently learned that some of the most commonly used cleaning products can actually create a hazard for children. Being the inquisitive librarian I am, I delved into the internet to try to find some consensus on what would be safe and effective cleaners for the library. And, of course, teachers are already super knowledgeable about this topic. I found a great resource list from the American Federation of Teachers union, with awesome recommendations of where to find more information about the "green clean" movement as well as product recommendations and national standards for child health and safety. Check out the whole list HERE.
