Welcome and Introductions

Old Business:

2020 YSS Luncheon Speaker - Katie

• Michael Dahl--nonfiction writer
• $700 budget, reach out to WLA for sponsorship if needed
• Maris withdrew completely
• for 2021 find sponsorship through Jen Gerber to get bigger name speaker
• Anne will do live posting with Michael Dahl, push out to school librarians
• Green Bay Barnes & Noble doing a 30% kickback to WLA for book sales
• WEMTA - Katie
• continue networking & relationship building
• asking for complimentary or discount conference registration for WLA members

YSS Powerhouse Presents - Katie

• working with other systems 
• WLA office Hannah Bunting will sponsor webinars through GoToMeeting
• archive presentations which then become WLA property
• webinars in April and September
• Topics could  include collection development/ summer learning--get ideas from 2018 membership survey
• Susie & Tessa volunteered to help

YSS Annual Report - Katie

• lots of great activities this past year
• 12 months of coding published
• Regional meet ups
• YSS Blog 
• kudos to marketing committee for getting our resources out

Marketing Committee - Anne & Katherine

• working on membership contact information--remind people to opt in
• planning content in spreadsheet
• regular postings are great, keep sharing
• record short videos for WLA promotion

Children’s Book Award Committee - Katherine

• committee members all set now--Ashley, Julia, Amy, Emily, Sarah and Katherine
• anyone can send names of authors with Wisconsin connections who published in 2019 (Tessa suggested Nick Wroblewski)
• make sure CBAC and winners get fair due at WLA this coming year

New Business:

Welcoming New Board Members

• Director-at-Large Conference Assignments
• help at conference with booth and social
• WLA: Florence & Emily

• WLA do a program swap and having some hands-on activity while talking
• have a comments section 

WLA Leadership Orientation - Katherine

• WLA’s priorities throughout the year--membership growth & retention, mentorship program, Leadership Institute
• YSS ideas
• YA content/resources
• Form letter for talking points to advocate for WLA/YSS membership
• Welcome phone call/letter to new members
• connect with other sections i.e. ORT, School Library, etc.
• make connections for meetings easier

WLA 2020 Conference

• Keynote Series--check WLA page for further information 
• Sponsorships and Barnes & Noble partnership--30% kickback to WLA on book sales during WLA

WLA Mentorship Program

• meet once a month
• 1 year commitment
• possible CE credits
• 2-3 hours per month
• encourage participation

GoToMeeting & GoToWebinar changes

• Setting YSS meeting dates for 2020 Fridays at 2:00 pm works best for most
• dates set for whole year--Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Aug, Sept, Nov
• May & November bump up due to holidays
• NO meetings in June and July due to Summer Reading programs

Brainstorming Initiatives for 2020 - All

• storytime form
• teen librarians form into a SIG (Special Interest Group)
• Luncheon speaker--use an influencer--someone from YouTube or Twitch
• get ideas to Katherine

WLA Board Report Liaison - Sue

• increase in conference attendance
• finding sponsorships
• UWMadison students are active (sponsor a student)
• try to get UWMilwaukee ones more active

DPI Updates-Tessa

• Project Readiness Toolkit
• Reimagining Equity & Access
• Youth of color and native youth
• Lester Library in Two Rivers chosen to be a pilot group

YSS Unit Leadership Roster Update - All

• get updated contact information to Susie
