WLA Call for Leaders!

During this uncertain and unprecedented time, one can feel overwhelmed and disheartened as we adapt to new ways of doing things and wonder how we will open our libraries, program to the needs and interests of our communities, and lead our staff and communities during and after the COVID-19 pandemic subsides. Or perhaps you are one of those who is feeling invigorated and imbued with energy to lead and do.

Either way, one sure thing you can do right now is to invest yourself with purpose. Consider the new virtual and organizing talents you are developing. Consider how you are already serving your profession. What talents, skills or even time do you have to share? Some of us have less time, some of us have more. Either way, WLA still needs you, our valued members, to engage with leadership roles.

Please think about how you can contribute to moving our profession forward today and in the future. Part of the value added in a WLA membership is what you invest in it for yourself and for our colleagues throughout the state and beyond.

Fill out the Lead with WLA form and be connected with other change agents, leaders, and committees that can use what you have to offer.

Here’s what one of our members has to say about active involvement in WLA:

Joining a professional organization like WLA has been rewarding for my professional life, as well as my personal life. Currently, I’m the secretary on the Support Staff & Circulation Services Section Board, which over the last few years, has led me to attend various conferences across the state, create new and lasting relationships with other library workers, and enroll in the library and information services degree program through Chippewa Valley Technical College. I was part of the second class to graduate in December 2019. WLA encourages a sense of unity and provides opportunities, like conferences, for connections and networking to take place.

Sam Vogel, Circulation Supervisor, Waterford Public Library
Secretary, WLA Support Staff and Circulation Services Section
