As seen on the ALSC listserv:
Please pass this opportunity on to anyone you know who may need it. We know that many ALSC (ALA's Association for Library Service to Children) members have been laid off, furloughed, or otherwise find themselves unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has disproportionately affected people who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or People of Color). Friends of ALSC will fund 50 ALA and ALSC membership renewals to BIPOC members who find themselves in this position and have been active ALA/ALSC members in the last year.
In funding these memberships, ALSC's goal is to honor BIPOC members' commitment and to increase retention of a diverse membership while reducing barriers to participation. The ALSC Membership Committee will be reviewing applications. To apply, please submit this application by November 13, 2020. The first round of applications will close on November 13, with the potential for future application periods until a total of 50 memberships have been selected and awarded. Finally, if you have the means to do so, Friends of ALSC are currently accepting donations toward this program. Find out more about Friends of ALSC and how to donate here.
