Claire's Corner - April 2022 YSS Board Updates

Today's April YSS board meeting update is from Claire Parrish, YSS 2022 Chair and Public Services Director at Rice Lake Public Library.

The April YSS Board Meeting gave the whole board time to reflect on our first events of the year. Our March regional meet-up gave attendees great ideas on teen programming – a big thank you to our two hosts, Taylor at Waupaca and Julia at Manitowoc for sharing their spaces and work with YSS.  We did have some tech issues and unfortunately most of the meet-up was not recorded, but the YSS board would be happy to connect you to the presenters if you’re interested in learning what they had to share.

The return of YSS sponsored webinars also happened in early April, and we had an amazing response to the topic of being prepared for challenges and pushback. YSS wants to remind all our members about the support offered by the CCBC for questions and concerns surrounding intellectual freedom. Their Education and Advocacy page is continually updated with new resources.

Be looking for information on the next regional meet-up and WLA/YSS webinar in late August/early September, after the whirlwind of summer!

Speaking of programming,  if you have been doing awesome programming/outreach/staff development, submit a proposal for the WLA fall conference!  Don’t want to present on your own? Fill out our collaborator form and we’ll pair you with other fabulous staff to present as a panel.

And lastly, please come see us at the WAPL conference!  We’ll be relaxing with board games and snacks the night of Thursday, May 12, 7:30-9:00pm in the Oakton Foyer room of the conference center.  This is a great way to unwind after a long day of conferencing and get to know fellow staff serving youth.  Pajamas welcome.
