Welcome
Old Business:
DPI Updates -Monica
In addition to National Library Week celebrated earlier this month, April is School Library Month. Please consider giving a shout-out or a friendly hello to your local school librarian.
Beanstack has two webinars for public librarians coming up. Thank you, Marge, for posting them in the YSS Blog. It would be fabulous to have more public libraries using Beanstack! School libraries are beginning to introduce tandems.
Tandems: If a school is using Beanstack, every student is given an account. If the public library is also using it, students can “link” with the public library’s Beanstack and see their challenges as well.
Please continue to build awareness about the support offered by the CCBC for questions and concerns surrounding intellectual freedom. Their Education and Advocacy page is continually updated with new resources.
Blog Check-in - Marge
Marge was not present
Subscription software (Follow It) used for blog distribution includes ads at the bottom of each email. Feedback from people concerned with the content of the ads. Mailchimp was suggested as an alternative, but it’s more complicated.
Option to pay Follow It $18 per year to get rid of ads - ask WLA next year to cover cost
Regional Meet-Ups - Murray
Meet-Up went well, Taylor and Julia did a great job with the tour of their libraries. 12-14 people in attendance for most of it. Unfortunately, Murray wasn’t able to control the recording, so only the last 20 or so minutes were recorded. Working on our options to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
Looking to do another one in mid- late August. Possibly in person, although worth exploring a hybrid option. Caitlin will discuss logistics with Angela Meyer (runs hybrid options for Bridges Library System meetup).
YSS/WLA/Intellectual Freedom SIG Webinar Update - Claire
Webinar went well. 75 people registered, 36 joined. Was recorded and the link was sent out afterward. One attendee was a non-WLA member.
Look into having a full schedule of webinars available early in the year to incentivize membership renewals and new membership.
WAPL Committee - Taylor and Ashley
Taylor will be there all day Thursday and hosting the YSS social on Thursday evening from 7-9 pm. Hang out and board game night on location at the Ingleside.
Thursday, May 12, 7:30-9:00 in the Oakton Foyer
Candy and snacks - Asking conference committee for money to cover costs.
WLA Update - Linda
No Board meeting, but will no more after next week.
Third keynote contract signed - Alison Macrina from the Library Reform Project (doing keynote and breakout session)
Working on Friday keynote
Thursday luncheon speaker also forthcoming
YSS luncheon speaker is almost finalized
Program proposals due on Monday, April 25.
Children’s Book Award
Met for the first time four weeks ago.
A long list of books to review this year! Around 150 books.
Meeting again on April 21 to get through the rest of the list.
Aiming to have a top ten list and winner selected by the end of May.
Qualifications: Either current resident or lived in Wisconsin at some point.
Marketing Committee - Alison

New Business:
Upcoming WLA/YSS Presents Webinars - Claire
Two upcoming ideas
Healing Library - Social/emotional resources for libraries. Speakers are very expensive, but information was given to Laura. Probably won’t work for this series. Put a call out to see if libraries are doing this work and/or have created their own services or kits who could present. Aiming for September.
Land Acknowledgements - YSS blog post that can be the starting point: https://yssevents.blogspot.com/search?q=Digital+Byte%3A+Supporting+%26+Representing+Indigenous+People+in+the+Library; La Crosse and Waupaca (?) also have land acknowledgements. Aiming for late November.
YS Consultant Meeting report - Claire
Meet every two months to discuss what’s going on in library systems and receive feedback. Claire attended, plugged the collaboration form, and mentioned other current and upcoming business.
Other business from the meeting:
KT is retiring from the CCBC on July 2.
Charlotte Zolotow lecture is on May 1st - Double presentation with speaker who was canceled and Meg Medina.
PBS Wisconsin has augmented summer learning resources tied to CSLP’s “Oceans of Possibilities'' theme.
Tentative meeting set for May 17th after WAPL
Motion to adjourn: Linda J motioned, Murray J. seconded.
