Today's October YSS board meeting update is from Claire Parrish, YSS 2022 Chair and Public Services Director at Rice Lake Public Library.
This month’s meeting was all things WLA Fall Conference. The conference looks to be a great few days, packed with amazing presentations by our colleagues. Sounds like we’ll all be getting our steps in due to the spacious layout of the conference center, so strap on those comfy shoes for a whirlwind of professional development, networking, and socializing.
Wednesday, 11:30-1:00pm, YSS Luncheon: We’re looking forward to seeing the lucky 150 folks who were able to register for the Kevin Henkes Luncheon. It’s sure to be a great presentation by one of our beloved children’s authors.
Wednesday, 6-8pm, YSS Social Dungeons and Dragons, Grand Ballroom Foyer: YSS decided to crash the Dungeons and Dragons event and make it into our social as we all know there is a lot of interest! Dungeon Masters will be leading tables through a game, but there's flexibility in how long you play, opportunities to join in later, or just hang around to watch and learn. While the conference Agenda does mark this event as full, that comment is only related to the spots at gaming tables, anyone is welcome to come and observe.
Thursday, 7:00am, Business Meeting, Williams Bay Boardroom: Bring your breakfast and join YSS Board members in our monthly board meeting. This is a chance for any members to sit in and offer input on the work the section is doing as we look to create goals for the upcoming year.
Thursday, 4:30pm, 2022 Burr/Worzalla Winner: Pahua and the Soul Stealer, Maple Lawn B: Join the author Lori Lee in a discussion on the winning book.
Lastly, a big CONGRATULATIONS to our new board members:
Chair Elect: Cathy Pescinski, Teen
Librarian, Shawano County Library
Directors-at-Large :
Jenna Gilles, Youth Services
Librarian, Chippewa Falls Public Library
Valerie Spooner, Youth Services
Librarian, Rusk County Community Library (Ladysmith)
Thank you to the rest of the candidates: Susie Menk, Andrea Bisordi, Brittany Fahrenkamp, Michelle Johnson, Jeanette Rydberg and Jamie Mercer. The entire YSS Board is so grateful for everyone’s participation. It’s always rewarding to see multiple candidates for each position, allowing us to showcase the depth of commitment our members have to the Wisconsin Library Association and their fellow librarians.
