Youth Services Section Board Meeting

November 3, 2022

7:00-7:45am 

Present: 

YSS Board Members: Alison Loewen, Jenny Wegener, Taylor Wilcox, Ashley Borman, Murray Johnson, Caitlin Schaffer

Guests: Maura Flanagan (Oconomowoc), Lisa Pike (Manitowoc), Lynn Christensen (Manitowoc), Beth Lokken (Door Co.), Jeni Schomber (DPI), Sam Jones (Beaver Dam), Florence LaBeau (Bloomer)

Old Business:

• DPI Updates -Jeni Schomber, Public Library Consultant
• Started in mid-September alongside Chris Baker
• Can find 5-year strategic plan on DPI website 
• Focus on supporting Wisconsin residents, Wisconsin libraries, and Wisconsin library staff
• Professional learning calendar on DPI website is available to anyone in the state with continued education events throughout the state. 
• Webinar Check In - Alison
• SEL Webinar - early December 
• On the search for another library to help present 
• WLA Update - Linda (not present) 
• Children’s Book Award - Committee Members
• Four openings, Claire and Briony will discuss applicants and make selection by mid-November 

New Business:

• Feedback from business meeting attendees for 2023
• Recommendation to get webinars and other virtual options recorded for librarians with busy schedules
• Recommendation to Jeni to offer some opportunities for continued education that connect librarians across the state, such as Project READY and compassion resilience training 
• Potential of bringing back the Youth Services Institute and Growing Wisconsin Readers (although it will likely be revamped under a different name)
• Big “thank you” for the blog as a resource! 
• December meeting date 
• Will organize later via email so we have everyone’s December availability
