Pauline Haass (Sussex) Public Library  Youth Services Librarian  (full time)


The Pauline Haass Public Library in Sussex, WI is seeking an innovative, self-motivated, customer service oriented librarian to join our Youth Services department and support our Adult Services department. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about library services for children; enjoys working with patrons of all ages; readily adapts to change; is comfortable both with current technologies and learning new ones; projects a helpful, welcoming personality; is well organized; and cultivates positive relationships with the public, external partners, and other staff.  

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: collection development, programming, reference and reader’s advisory, outreach and community engagement, technology instruction, cataloging, and the creation of promotional materials. During weekend/evening shifts and as needed, this position assumes Person-in-Charge duties. Applicants should be comfortable with independent decision making, embrace responsibility and leadership opportunities, desire to be a team player, and have enthusiasm for lifelong learning. This position works under the general supervision of the Youth Services Manager. 

 

This full-time position works 40 hours per week including one evening per week and every fourth weekend, with about 50% of time spent on a public service desk. The weekend rotation and weekly evening shift are worked on the Adult Services desk (an average of 8 hours per week in Adult Services).  

 

REQUIRED 

  • An ALA accredited MLS or MLIS or equivalent degree  
  • At least one year public service experience, preferably in a public library 
  • Experience planning and presenting programs 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a positive attitude 
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and assume ownership of the role 

PREFERRED:  

  • Coursework and experience in youth services, especially focused on early literacy and family engagement 
  • Cataloging experience  

SALARY & BENEFITS: 

The starting salary for this position is $47,300-49,900 DOE. Benefits include health and dental insurance, vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, and membership in the Wisconsin Retirement System.
