YSS has decided not to write it's own literacy calendar for the upcoming year, but will instead use and promote the calendar created by Reading Is Fundamental (RIF.org). The calendar is available in both English and Spanish! Check out the link below to explore this great resource.

Book People Unite!

Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) has a new Public Service Announcement to try to raise awareness of the transformative power of books and the importance of getting them into the hands of kids. It's a great little video--watch for the three little pigs parachuting, Madeline and Greg Heffley riding the bus together, Red Riding Hood jamming with the Big Bad Wolf in a convertible, and more. You'll hear famous pop artists singing about the importance of reading with kids, and you'll feel inspired to take the pledge declaring your belief in the power of reading, and support for RIF's mission of getting books into the hands of kids who don't have many at home. (According to their statistics, there is only one book for every 300 kids in under-served communities).
