Partying Star Wars Style

Manitowoc Public Library Children’s Department recently hosted a May the 4^th Be With You Star Wars party.  We had several games including an Asteroid Force Field where we put rings on the floor and then the children had to keep the balloons up without stepping out of the ring.

 We also had the kids crawl through a “wormhole”.

The biggest hit however, was the appearance of people dressed as Star Wars characters.

These are the members of a group called the 501^st Legion, Vader’s Fist.  Libraries can put in a request on their website,  501st.  They will contact you and get particulars.  The best part is that it’s free!  The group that came to our library were real troupers, letting their photos be taken, dueling with the children, and interacting throughout the library.  Our favorite was Chewbacca.  He was awesome! 

Star Wars Reads Free Stuff

I bet you are excited about free stuff as the next person, aren't you? And free stuff to help you promote reading?  Even better.  Star Wars Read Day is October 11, and publishers of Star Wars books are happy to help you promote it with an event kit, plus a bunch of other promotions, like free posters, stickers and buttons.  Orders are due September 19, so you even have some time to figure it out!  Check out the promo information here.

Star Wars Reads Day Oct 5, 2013

For those of us who love any fine excuse to throw a Star Wars party and celebrate science fiction, Star Wars Read Day returns Saturday October 5.

Come On, You KNOW You NEED This

With Star Wars Read Day only a month away (Oct. 6), you can have your public computers plastered with cool wallpaper and celebrate books at the same time (plus tell kids about the new book by Tom Angleberger).  And don't forget these low-stress, no-stress ideas Star Wars programming ideas.
