Early Literacy Training Workshops

Hedberg Public Library is hosting a two-day workshop on early literacy. We hope you will be able to join us for one or both days.

Register by emailing sgrover@hedbergpubliclibrary.org no later than Friday, May 6. Be sure to include your name, library affiliation, email address, and phone number. We can accommodate 50 participants at this free workshop. Lunch will be provided both days.

Thursday, May 19, 2011, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
Learn how to enhance storytimes for children from birth to age five/six by including literacy-building materials and activities.
  • Understand why including early literacy skills in storytime is so important.
  • Get tips for developing storytime templates that will ensure each storytime is filled with early literacy skill-builders.
  • Become familiar with ways to point out early literacy tips to adult care givers during your storytimes.
Friday, May 20, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm

Learn how to make connections in the community and to bring the importance of early literacy development to parent groups and community leaders. Especially now in these difficult economic times, it is critical that the community understands what we do in storytime and how it relates to preparing our children for school success.
  • Get ideas for building community collaborations to promote early literacy.
  • Learn how to effectively communicate the importance of early literacy to parents, community groups, and business leaders.
