I found a fascinating and worthwhile response to the Rachel Payne article on apps from the SLJ website (the one referenced in yesterday's YSS blog post). The most important point of the rebuttal: Apps, when used with a caregiver and child together, have great potential for encouraging talking, reading and singing together. The caregiver is the most important part of the equation--and Emily Lloyd, the author of the slide show, asserts that using high quality apps together with adults can be just as valuable as using high quality board books together.
Hmmmm! More food for thought...
