Summer RA

Summer is nearly upon us, and for many that means hordes of kids, fun and exciting programs, and hopefully, empty shelves. As young readers look for books to fill their summer days, our readers' advisory skills can be put to the test! While we like to spend time with individual readers, booktalking and finding out more about their reading tastes, it can also be nice to have go-to resources for read-alikes and some ready-made reading suggestions we can pass out to kids and parents looking for a longer list or simply rushing in and out of the library.

Last year, We Need Diverse Books posted an extensive list of read-alikes for kids and teens. Bonus: there's even some nonfiction! http://weneeddiversebooks.org/summer-reading-series/

Recommendation from We Need Diverse Books

ALSC recently posted their 2015 summer reading lists as a downloadable PDF, which are easy to print and pass out. Get ahold of them here: http://www.ala.org/alsc/2015-summer-reading-list

Summer reading printables

Scholastic has several lists, broken down by age level, and a list featuring all books in Spanish: http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/collection/keep-kids-reading-all-summer-long

What will you be recommending this summer?
