Weeding or Making a Collection Fresh, Current & Relevant

When we weed, we let go of library materials that are outdated, stale, ugly or old knowledge. Even with all the guidelines, experience, and the desire to weed, it can still be daunting or difficult to actually withdraw items.

Here are two resources used by the DC Public Library that address guidelines for weeding, on a regular and on-going basis, for the children's and young adult collections. They are shared with permission of Wendy Lukehart, Youth Collections Coordinator. Perhaps these documents will be ones you can use to keep your collections appealing and fresh.
