Oak Creek Public Library          Youth Services Librarian (full-time )

The ideal candidate will match the energy and enthusiasm of our community and bring an innovative spirit to the Youth Services Department. This forward-thinking, creative, and adaptable librarian will provide a high quality, research-based, learning experience for caregivers and children, with a focus on birth through 8th grade, and promote a love of learning and reading, and help foster future success among the patrons they encounter. This position works under the general supervision of the Youth Services Manager.

 

The Youth Services Librarian provides excellent customer service to library patrons, assists the community in meeting their reference and informational needs, plans and conducts youth programs, promotes youth services to the community, manages assigned library collections, serves on assigned committees, helps create a vibrant and welcoming youth area through passive activities and imaginative displays, and administers other library services as assigned.

 

The Oak Creek Public Library is a part of the Milwaukee Federated Library System. It is located in one of the fastest growing and most vibrant communities in Southeastern Wisconsin, right in the heart of Drexel Town Square. The current library opened in 2015 and includes a beautiful Youth Services Department, including state-of-the-art technology and ample spaces for programming opportunities. Annually, the library serves 200,000 visitors and circulates more than 250,000 items.

 

ELIGIBILITY

Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution. Good communication skills and strong customer service skills are required. Preferred candidates will have at least one (1) year of recent experience in public library operations and knowledge or training related to youth services. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be able to work evening and weekend hours as required.

 

A successful candidate will possess a strong service orientation and commitment to library user’s needs, strong organizational and project management skills, creativity and innovation, excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and a strong desire to explore new ways to provide excellent library service to the Oak Creek community.

 

WAGES & SCHEDULE

This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting salary of $53,900. The schedule includes two evenings per week and rotating weekend hours.
