The basic idea behind Novel Effect is to make reading picture books more interactive. This free app (only available right now on Apple devices, although it is coming soon to android) listens to your voice as you read and plays sound effects to enhance the book experience. I used it today to read The Cat in the Hat to 5th and 1st-grade classes. The students loved hearing the sound effects, which started and stopped based on my voice so I could ask questions as I read.
