Finding Diverse Books

In a recent Friday email from Monarch Library System, Youth Services Consultant Kin Niesing shared some great resources.

She writes:

  • "Check out this fantastic PDF guide on how to find books with diverse characters in NoveList.
    • Also check out the right side of the second page on the PDF for poster/marketing printables. Search DE printable in NoveList for more printables.
    • Note that this PDF uses the term #OwnVoices--a term that is no longer recommended.
    • NoveList is a resource we have through BadgerLink. It is a database of literature for all ages; it provides book summaries, recommended reading ages, professional reviews, book lists, and more. It is great for reader's advisory and collection development!

  • Here is an ALSC article on how to find diverse books for your library collection."
