Tuesday Tips - Booklists Ideas and Recommendations

Sam Jones is the Youth Services Librarian at the Beaver Dam Public Library. Today she shares a tip on a wonderful resource to be aware of.

The Madison Reading Project is a great organization that provides free books and resources to Dane County and the rest of Wisconsin. On their website, they also have a blog where they post different thematic booklists. They review about ten books but then link to a longer list of titles they would also recommend. Two of my current favorites are:

Inclusive Books to Celebrate and Honor Father Figures This list does a great job at providing books with diverse characters and different family dynamics.

Picture Books for Sharing Planet Earth and Rainbow Craft This summer, my library is doing "Read Beyond the Beaten Path" as a theme and this list has some great examples of books to be used for storytime. Libraries doing the "Ocean of Possibilities" theme could find inspiration in this booklist as well. They even provide a craft idea!

I've been following the Madison Reading Project for a while now, and I love how they are focused on equity and diversity. They also have a Facebook and Instagram page that they frequently update if you are interested in learning more about what they are currently doing for events.
