Welcome

Old Business:

  • DPI Updates -Monica

    • Jeni Schomber and Chris Baker have joined the Library Services Team as consultants. Look for their attendance at these meetings in the future!

    • Alex Delvoye took another position with UW and is no longer at DPI. Team director Ben Miller is serving as LSTA coordinator while a replacement is recruited. Send any LSTA questions to the LSTA inbox: lstagrants@dpi.wi.gov

  • Blog Check-in - Marge

    • Has blog posts with pictures and biographies for all candidates in the upcoming election. Hoping to post the third and fourth week of September.

    • On average, blog posts get about 10-25 hits in the first couple of days. People are definitely interested in the Board work and Claire’s Corner. Minutes get over 100-150 hits.

    • Ongoing Issues with email client worked out by Marge via a conversation with the client. No more ads!

    • Saturday blog posts - Are they being seen? Post the job postings on Saturdays because they are time sensitive. Gives time for contributor posts to be up for a full 24 hours.

  • Regional Meet-Ups - Claire

    • Eau Claire - Fun (but small) meetup on Thursday, September 15. 5-6 attendees.

      • Remodel is very nice! Second day open to the public.

      • Ton of meeting rooms, gallery space, outdoor patio, geothermal heating and cooling system, giant magnet wall, non-slip storytime mats to use on concrete floor for storytime and events

    • Future thoughts - Double check with WLA calendar to make sure we aren’t booking back-to-back. IFLS meeting on the Tuesday prior that covered a lot of the same content and possibly received priority attendance.

  • Webinar Check In - Claire

    • Healing Library/Trauma Informed kits - October

      • Alison and Claire - In contact with the Milton Public Library (already own and circulate kits) and the Waukesha Public Library (did work with the community after the parade tragedy).

      • Other libraries to consider: Chippewa Falls has some kits, or social worker at Eau Claire

    • Land Acknowledgements - late November/early December

      • Hedberg Public Library (Janesville) - Working on pulling together land acknowledgement workshop

    • Could presenters/attendee write up a few paragraphs for the blog? Claire will look into as far as contract discrepancies, see what has been archived and shared.

  • WLA Update - Linda

    • Board meeting last Friday, Sep. 16

      • Talked mostly about the conference, intellectual freedom issues, and updating the organizational manual.

      • Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bradley - Hired to fill Hannah Bunting’s position:  bradley@wisconsinlibraries.org, working part time, 9-1, Monday - Friday

  • WLA Fall Conference Planning

    • Social - Melissa & Murray: Minute to Win It challenges (fits with conference theme)

      • Social and business meeting are not on the agenda, so Claire will work on getting that fixed.

    • Business meeting currently scheduled to be held at the same time as breakout sessions, so Claire is  looking into changing that time.

    • Luncheon - Jenny: Details still in the works (tech needs, etc.), but Kevin Henkes is coming.

      • Meals are now included in the conference cost. It is more cost effective, and the Grand Geneva is far removed from the downtown and other eating options.

    • D&D Social - Caitlin: Not a YSS-sponsored event, but might be of interest to youth services librarians. Caitlin will work on blog post to let librarians know about Dungeons & Dragons options at WLA once more details are worked out.

      • Combine YSS social with D&D social?

  • Children’s Book Award - Committee Members

    • Recruitment - Two applications submitted, another sent via Google Doc and Claire can’t access it.

    • Need to fill four spots, so might try another marketing push on the blog and via Memberclicks (Alison)

  • Marketing Committee - Alison

    • Nothing new right now

New Business:

  • Updating YSS Policies - Claire/Linda

    • Working to standardize and provide continuity to some of the shared operations between sections.

    • Updating the procedural parts of the YSS manual versus the policies

  • Discovered that not everyone had access to the correct Google Drive folder

    • Future project - Move everything to Dropbox?

Next Meeting: October 18

Motion to Adjourn: Taylor W., seconded by Alison L.
