New London Public Library      Children's Librarian (full-time)

The New London Public Library is accepting applications for a friendly, energetic, knowledgeable full-time Children Services Librarian. Responsibilities include planning and executing programs, providing reference, readers’ advisory and computer assistance, and collection management.  Exceptional customer service skills are a necessity.   The successful candidate will be dynamic, creative, tech-savvy, work well independently and as a team, and be willing to adapt to changing priorities and library practices. Must possess strong multi-tasking, organizational and technological skills. New London Library is open six days a week from Labor Day to Memorial Day, weekends and evening hours are expected. 

Reports To:      Library Director

Job Summary: 
The Head of Youth Services supervises and manages the staff, services, equipment and programs in the department.  Plans, directs and implements all programs and services for youth.  Develops and manages the youth services collection in all formats for youth and their caregivers. 

Essential Job Functions:
•       Reports to library director regularly concerning all programs, projects, services, challenges, successes, policies, procedures, budget needs and personnel matters related to the youth department.  Keeps statistical records as required by the director.
•       Organizes, plans, coordinates, promotes and implements all services, programs, displays, and other activities relating to services to youth.
•       Implements collection development procedures and selection of materials for the youth department, including parenting and professional collections.
•       Oversees classification, data base entry, processing, and placement of all materials in the youth department.
•       Oversees the selection, training and performance of the youth department’s personnel. Assigns and delegates tasks to youth department personnel.
•       Conducts reference interviews; performs reference and reader’s advisory functions; assists patrons in using library database and electronic resources; performs circulation functions as needed.
•       Oversees library outreach services for youth, childcare providers and teachers, including rotating day care kits and school visits.
•       Acts as liaison between the library and community agencies serving youth, including schools and home school parents.  Promotes children’s library services in the library and in the community.
•       Advises director on budget, physical conditions, equipment, supplies and service needs.  Monitors departmental budget.
•       Belongs to and participates in local, state or national library associations.  Attends relevant professional and community workshops.
•       Other duties as requested by the director.

Education and Training:
MLS from ALA accredited graduate school preferred.  Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on elementary or early childhood education may be acceptable, depending on experience.  Experience and training in library skills, knowledge of print, non-print and electronic resources and services for youth.

Berlin Public Library           Youth Services Librarian (full time)

The Berlin Public Library, located in the friendly and beautiful community of Berlin, Wisconsin, is seeking an enthusiastic, tech-savvy, and creative Youth Services Librarian to join our team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong public service commitment to providing exceptional and innovative library services and programs to children, teens, and families of the Berlin community. The Librarian will show an energetic commitment to community outreach and collaboration with schools, community organizations and events.

The ideal candidate will also have a significant understanding and knowledge of public librarianship principles, library ethics, along with being familiar with children and teen materials. The position requires excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, strong written and verbal  communication skills including public speaking, the ability to formulate and execute short-term and long-term plans while adhering to deadlines and acting as a team player. 

Three years of experience in library services or working with children is required. BA or BS in Library  Science or a related field is required. MA in Library Science is preferred. Preference is also given to previous customer service experience. Experience in youth programming, with the ability to think outside of the box and provide programs that will engage children, teens, and families is essential.

This full-time (40-hour exempt) Youth Services Librarian position includes working one evening  per week and at least one Saturday per month with the ability to switch work hours when needed. Occasional work travel is required. Great benefits include  paid vacation, holiday, personal days, WI retirement system, qualifies for health, life & income continuation insurance. Optional dental, vision, & deferred compensation programs are available. Salary range is $42,809 to $49,920 depending on experience and education.

Waupaca Area Public Library       Head of Youth Services Librarian (full-time)

This position is responsible for leading the Library’s Youth Services Department in providing programming, services, collections, community outreach and assistance to young people and families. Provides dynamic leadership in planning and executing outreach projects to promote literacy and library resources in the community. The position supervises the staff members assigned to Youth Services and work by all staff members within the department. The employee regularly works at the Youth Services Desk and provides friendly and efficient service to patrons of all ages.
