    Youth Services Manager (FT)

The Greenfield Public Library in Greenfield, WI, is seeking a full-time Youth Services Manager. To manage the day-to-day operations of the Youth Services Department. Reporting to the Library Director, this position manages the youth services staff, oversees the development and maintenance of the youth services collection, administers library programs focusing on youth ages 0-17, promotes Library services to the community, and participates in the library's day-to-day operations.

The ideal candidate will serve as a leader within the library, acting as a positive role model for staff while fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. This individual will work effectively with all library employees and key community stakeholders and will be committed to providing an outstanding patron experience for people of all ages and backgrounds.

The City of Greenfield is nearly 12 square miles with over 37,000 people. It has two fire stations, an active community center, a popular Sunday Farmer’s Market, 14 city parks, and five county parks.  With five aldermanic districts and a full-time mayor, the boundaries of the City include three school districts:  Greenfield, West Allis/West Milwaukee, and Whitnall.  Greenfield is proud to be the Home of the Knockout Rose.

Required Education/Training and Experience

·         Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.

·         One (1) year of experience in library operations required (public library experience preferred).  Experience, knowledge, or training related to youth services preferred.

·         Excellent communication, project management skills, and strong customer service skills are required.

The Greenfield Public Library reserves the right to utilize equivalencies where deemed appropriate regarding education and experience requirements and may consider combinations of education and experience likely to lead to success with essential duties and responsibilities.

The hourly rate for this position is $29-$32 per hour. The City of Greenfield provides excellent benefits, including health, insurance, vacation, paid holidays, and enrollment in the Wisconsin Retirement System.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Ability to work 40 hours per week, including evenings, and a rotating  Saturday and Sunday schedule. Flexibility in scheduling is required.

The starting pay for this position is $31.06 per hour. The City of Greenfield provides excellent benefits, including health, insurance, vacation, paid holidays, and enrollment in the Wisconsin Retirement System.

The Cudahy Family Library is seeking a creative and energetic individual to be a part of the Library’s Youth Services Department. The Cudahy Family Library is located in Cudahy, Wisconsin, and is a member of the Milwaukee County Federated Library System. The City of Cudahy is approximately 8 minutes south of Milwaukee on the shores of Lake Michigan. The automation system is Innovative Interfaces, Inc.

Primary responsibilities, under direction:
Assists in providing Library services and programs for children and young adults
Provides reader’s advisory and reference services

Hedberg Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic Youth Services Associate who enjoys working with children and families. Under the general direction of the Head of Youth Services, this position provides welcoming, high-quality service to library visitors and helps create engaging programs that support early literacy and lifelong learning.

Schedule: 29 hours per week, including daytime, evening, and Saturday hours.

What You’ll Do

• Provide friendly and knowledgeable service at the Children’s Desk, assisting with circulation, readers’ advisory, reference questions, and general library use.
• Plan and present early literacy Storytimes and other programs for children (birth to age 11) and their families.
• Support and help implement the Summer Library Program.
• Conduct outreach visits and tours at the library and in the community, including schools, daycares, camps, and Bookmobile events.
• Assist with departmental projects such as collection development, scheduling, reports, statistics, and coordinating in-room activities.
• Collaborate with library staff, community partners, and the public to support youth services initiatives.
• Follow library safety procedures and assist with special projects as assigned.

Who You’ll Work With
Reports to the Head of Youth Services and works regularly with library staff, City employees, community groups, local businesses, and the general public.

Youth Services Librarian (FT)

Due to an internal promotion, the Whitefish Bay Public Library is seeking a full-time Librarian for youth and teen services, with occasional cross-departmental support in Adult Services. Horicon Public Library 

Youth Services and Programming Librarian (PT 20 hours/week)

The Horicon Public Library seeks an energetic, creative candidate passionate about serving children and young adults. The ideal candidate enjoys engaging with people of all ages, building community partnerships, is comfortable with technology and adapting to innovations, and is well organized. A successful candidate works collaboratively while also making independent decisions and taking initiative to increase the library's value to the community.

Job duties include, but are not limited to: providing customer assistance at the circulation desk, conducting storytimes and youth and teen programs, marketing library services, and assisting with maintaining the library's social media accounts.

McHenry Public Library District

Youth Services Library Associate - Bilingual Services (PT 25 hrs/week)

Wisconsin Valley Library Service invites you to join us for a free workshop about Games in Libraries on Friday, October 24, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM! 

This WVLS Youth Services Workshop, at the Tomahawk Public Library, will explore the power of play in libraries, featuring video games with Chris Baker (DPI) and tabletop role-playing games with game designer Jon Spike. Discover practical strategies for building collections, creating engaging programs, and using games to support literacy, community, and creativity.  Morning snacks and lunch will be provided.

Beyond the Bookshelf: Games in the Library

Discover the power of play in libraries! 

This workshop will begin with a tour to see how Tomahawk Public Library brought talk, read, sing, write, and play to life through their 2019/2020 WVLS Innovation and Collaboration Literacy Grant.

Next, DPI Public Library Consultant Chris Baker will take participants into the world of video games with his presentation Games are Not Optional: Addressing the Priority (and Gaps) of Game-Based Library Services. Baker will provide an overview of the current state of gaming in the U.S. Together, we'll tackle questions like "How popular is gaming in 2025?", and "Who 'are' gamers?"; additionally, we'll briefly explore the unique educational benefits that games offer. Most importantly, we'll discuss why these questions should matter to the modern librarian. Baker will also share how libraries can build strong gaming collections, design engaging programs, and connect with patrons of all ages. Learn practical strategies for integrating games into library services to boost literacy, community building, and creativity.

In the afternoon, game designer Jon Spike will introduce tabletop role-playing games (RPGs) in his presentation How Tabletop Games, Playful Learning, and Game Design Promote Literacy and Creation in the Library. Board games, card games, and role-playing games are experiencing a renaissance in pop culture - so how can we leverage them in the library space? In this session, we'll explore how games build skills through STEAM topics, literacy development, and much more! Prepare to engage in activities that you can turn around and use in your libraries tomorrow!

Throughout the day, we’ll highlight how games promote social-emotional growth, inspire STEAM learning, and create welcoming spaces for connection and storytelling.

Speaker Bios

Chris Baker
Chris Baker is a video game scholar and Public Library / Games & Learning Consultant with the Bureau of Libraries at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Before joining DPI, Chris worked as a Youth Services Librarian at the Spring Green Community Library, then as a Teen Services Librarian, Adult Services Librarian, and Technology Coordinator at the Portage Public Library.

Chris’s background also includes a robust career in professional theatre. He earned a BA in Theatre from UW-Parkside and a Masters in Fine Arts in Theatre Pedagogy from Virginia Commonwealth University, where his thesis examined video games, learning, and society. Chris also holds an MLIS from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

He specializes in games-based library services, project management, innovation, and collaboration. Chris currently serves as President-Elect of the American Library Association Games & Gaming Round Table.

Jon Spike
Jon Spike, PhD, is a former K–12 English teacher and technology integrator who now serves as the Coordinator of Instructional Technology and Integration Services at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater in the College of Education and Professional Studies. He earned his doctorate in Instructional Technology from Northern Illinois University, researching collaborative learning experience design in virtual reality.

Jon is the CEO of GamestormEDU, where he designs educational board and card games for schools, families, and organizations. His releases include Gamestormers (2023), a competitive storytelling game, and Doomscroll (2025), a social media literacy card game—both finalists in the Gee Learning Game Awards Tabletop Competition.

Jon has presented nationally at the International Society of Technology in Education Conference, the Future of Educational Technology Conference, and the North American Simulation and Gaming Association (NASAGA) Conference. He has received the Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology Association (WEMTA) Emerging Leader Award and the NASAGA Rising Star Award.
